CASE STUDY: STUDIO FOR URBAN PROJECTS

Founded in 2006 by Alison Sant and Richard Johnson , the Studio for Urban Projects is an interdisciplinary design collaborative that works at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, art, and social activism. Research, public programming, and prototyping are at the heart of their practice, and their projects aim to provoke change by reframing perceptions of the city and experimenting with the design of our urban systems.

Their website and branding dated back to the early days of their studio and so was in need of a refresh.

Alison Sant’s book, From The Ground Up, was about to be released, and so there was a lot of energy regarding the new positioning of their output.

For the re-brand of this well established practice, we dove deep with the founders and through a series of workshops surfaced what was important to them in terms of how they wanted to communicate their work. Clarity, simplicity, dynamism, and accessibility were core values, as well as the need to feature the people and organizations involved in each project. A high sensitivity to the principles of modern design — with special attention to modularity and color — were the guiding principles behind their visual identity.

We are very pleased to report that we continue to work with Ali & Rick in their visual communication, along with their team, which includes illustrator extraordinaire Packard Jennings.
